CEREBRAL PALSY

Cerebral palsy is a congenital disorder of movement, body posture or muscle tone. The term “cerebral” refers to the brain, and “palsy” refers to motor impairment.

It affects a person’s ability to move and maintain balance, speech and hearing impairments. Cerebral palsy (CP) most commonly occur in early childhood affecting 2 to 3 per 1000 live births worldwide.

The main cause of cerebral palsy is brain injury or abnormal brain development.

There various factors that can lead to abnormal development such as:

  • Gene Changes
  • Maternal Infection
  • Stroke
  • Lack Of Oxygen

SYMPTOMS:

  • Delayed crawling or walking
  • Uncontrolled reflexes
  • Muscle rigidity
  • Trouble with swallowing, hearing, vision and changes in eye movement

Treatment can help but there is no cure for cerebral palsy. Treatment includes medication, surgeries, speech therapy, physical and occupational therapy.
